Psalm 62:1-2

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

You just put the phone down. The screen went dark, but the noise in your head didn't. Another day of holding it together, of being the steady one, of answering 'I'm fine' when you're anything but. The effort it takes to just keep standing is its own kind of weight.

That weariness makes sense. It's the natural result of a world that asks for more than you have to give. You don't have to justify the exhaustion or explain where it came from. It's enough to name it: soul-deep tired.

Yes, it is okay to be exactly this tired. The psalmist didn't say "find rest after you recover your strength." He said: "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." The rest is in God, not in you getting better first. He is already the rock — solid and present — before you feel steadier. He is already the fortress — standing around you — while you are still shaking inside.

The rock does not ask you to be less heavy. The fortress does not ask you to be less afraid. That is the whole point of a refuge: you come in as you are.

So the pretense can fall away tonight. You are allowed to bring the full weight of this tiredness. The ground is holding.

A prayer for today

Weary. That's the only honest word I have, God. You see the cracks in my composure, the places where I'm barely holding on. I'm bringing You this soul-tiredness—the kind that sleep doesn't fix. Thank You that I don't have to build my own stability tonight. You are the rock. I am being held steady. You are the fortress. I am being kept safe. My salvation, my rescue, comes from You. It's already done. So here, in this quiet, my soul stops its striving. I exhale. The work was Yours all along. Amen.
