Is the safety I keep searching for already here?

The screen light is the only glow in the room. Your thumb moves, scrolling through one more article, one more post, looking for the answer you can’t quite name. Your mind is a browser with too many tabs open, each one a search for peace, for purpose, for a way to fix the low-grade ache behind your ribs. The search itself has become a weight.

That exhaustion makes sense. You’ve been believing that finding is required—that clarity is a destination you must reach, and peace is a prize you have to earn by trying harder or thinking clearer. The hunt is wearing you out.

Right now, in the space between one breath and the next, a door you didn’t have to knock on is swinging open. The psalmist named it centuries ago, and the name still fits: 'God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.' A refuge isn’t a place you find on a map after a long journey. It’s the solid wall at your back in the middle of the storm. It’s the roof already over your head. 'Ever-present help' doesn’t mean help is on the way after you send the correct distress signal. It means the help is already in the room. It’s the steady hand on your shoulder while you’re still staring at the problem. The search for safety, for strength, for a solution—it’s already over. What you’ve been looking for has been looking for you. The refuge isn’t waiting for you to arrive. You’re already inside it. The help isn’t conditional on your understanding. It’s simply present, woven into the fabric of this moment, holding you up even when your legs feel weak.

You can stop looking. The solid ground is beneath your feet. The walls are around you. You’re home, and you have been all along.
