Colossians 3:12
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
You want your life to mean something big, but you're just making dinner. You long for a sacred moment, but you're only sending a text. Both pulls are real—the ache for significance and the reality of the routine. How can the mundane possibly hold the holy?
The weight of that question makes sense. Believing that meaning must be earned or discovered in grand gestures is exhausting. It turns every ordinary Tuesday into a test you might be failing. The pressure to make your simple words or quiet actions 'count' can drain the life from them before they're even spoken.
But listen to this, woven right into the fabric of your normal day: 'Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.' Did you catch the order? Your identity comes first. You are already chosen. Already holy. Already dearly loved. The compassion, the kindness—they aren't prerequisites to earn that title. They are the natural clothing of a life that is already declared sacred. Your 'everyday hello' isn't just small talk waiting to be infused with meaning. It is the 'holy thread' itself, because it comes from you—a person who is already and irrevocably held as holy and dear. The sacred isn't a quality you manufacture for special occasions. It's the truth of your being, spilling into your grocery run, your work message, your tired sigh at the sink. You don't have to weave the thread. You are the thread. And every ordinary connection becomes a point where that holiness touches the world.
So the text you send is enough. The smile you offer is enough. Not because they're perfect, but because they come from you—already sacred, already loved. The meaning is not out there to be found; it is in here, being lived. Go gently into the rest of your day, beloved. You are walking holiness.
A prayer for today
I don't know how to pray about the small things. The greetings, the chores, the passing moments feel too ordinary to bring to You. But here I am, bringing the mundane anyway. Thank You that I don't have to make these moments sacred. You already have. You call me chosen, holy, dearly loved—right in the middle of the routine. That truth is clothing me now, a kindness I didn't stitch together. So my simple words are held in Your hands. My ordinary presence is wrapped in Your extraordinary love. I am not building my significance; I am resting in the significance You've already declared. That is enough. I am enough, here in the plain and simple. Thank You. Amen.
