2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

We've all been there. Your mind is a broken record, stuck on the same few seconds you wish you could redo. The 'what if' and the 'if only' play on a loop, coloring the present with a shade of yesterday's regret. It feels like you're reading the same page over and over, unable to turn it, the words blurring from the strain.

That ache makes sense. The desire to rewrite a scene, to edit your lines, is a human response to a story that didn't go as planned. You're not failing at moving on; you're just noticing the weight of a chapter that felt unfinished. The feeling that you need to earn a fresh start by re-reading the old one is a heavy lie.

'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!' That's not a suggestion—it's an invitation with your name on it. It doesn't say 'if anyone gets their story perfect.' It says 'if anyone is in.' And you are. So the work of turning the page? It's already done. The binding on that old chapter has been gently closed by a kindness you didn't earn. You don't have to pry it open to study your mistakes. A quiet peace is being placed over it, like a soft cloth on a dusty book. And listen—the rustle you hear isn't the past. It's the sound of a new page, already open and waiting, its surface clean and blank not with pressure, but with pure, unclaimed possibility. Your story isn't defined by the paragraphs you'd rewrite. It's authored by the one who holds the entire book and has already written 'loved' in the margins of every single page, especially the messy ones.

Right here, in this breath, the record skips to a new song. The 'what if' loses its power because the 'what is' is this: you are a new creation. The old story is gone. The new one is here, unfolding in this very moment. You don't have to search for the fresh start. It has already found you.

A prayer for today

'The old has gone, the new is here.' God, my mind keeps arguing with that. I keep flipping back to the old chapter, reading my regrets by heart. I'm bringing You the weight of the 'if only.' Thank You that the work of closing that book is finished. You have placed Your peace over those pages. I don't have to earn the new one; it's already open before me. I am held in this newness. I am known, even in my looking back. Help my heart believe what is already true: the story is Yours, and it is good. I rest here, on this fresh page. Amen.
