Psalm 28:7

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

There's a word for this feeling. It's called 'searching for the light.' You've been squinting at your life, trying to make out the shape of your purpose in the dimness. You've been scanning the horizon for a sign, a confirmation that you're headed the right way, that your life means something. The ache for clarity is a real weight in your chest.

That longing makes sense. Wanting to see the path, to understand your part in the story—it's a deeply human hunger. You're not wrong for feeling it. The uncertainty isn't a failure of your faith; it's just the landscape you've been walking through.

'The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.' That's not a suggestion—it's an invitation with your name on it. The strength isn't a resource you muster. The shield isn't a tool you forge. They are given. Your part isn't to manufacture trust from scratch; it's to notice the trust that's already there, planted in you like a seed. And the help? It's already in motion. While you've been straining to see, your sight has been changing. The world hasn't gotten brighter; your eyes have been adjusted to see the brightness that was always there. The song of joy isn't something you need to compose through effort; it's the melody your heart is already humming when you stop trying to conduct the orchestra.

The gift is this: you are not lost in a dim world, searching for a flashlight. You are standing in a world already flooded with light, and your eyes are already open. The clarity you crave isn't a destination on the map; it's the changed sight you're experiencing right now. You see it now. The meaning, the purpose—it's woven into the very fabric of your being, not as a task to accomplish but as an identity to receive. Your life is a song of joy, and you are both the singer and the one sung over.

The world is bright with what's been given. You see it now. Let that truth settle into your bones, quiet and sure.

A prayer for today

To You, I bring my quiet searching. To You, I bring my tired eyes. I’ve been looking so hard for meaning, for a sign I’m on the right path. Thank You that I can stop squinting. Thank You that the light was here all along, and my sight was being changed while I wasn’t looking. You are my strength—I am strengthened. You are my shield—I am safe. My trust is being held by You, not manufactured by me. The help is already given. My heart is leaping. The song is rising. I don’t have to write it or earn it. I am sung over, and I am singing. That is enough. Amen.
