Psalm 139:13
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
It's late in the week. You've been tallying yourself up again—what you managed, what you didn't, how far you still feel from the person you're supposed to be. Broken. Behind. Not quite ready for whatever comes next.
That feeling has a name: it's the fear that God's acceptance is waiting on your readiness. That He'll receive you once you've healed a little more, forgiven a little more, gotten yourself together.
But listen to what He says about the making of you: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Knit. That's not assembly-line work. That's a craftsman, slow and deliberate, weaving every part of you together with intention. He did that before you could do anything right or wrong. Before you could be ready or unready.
God's acceptance of you wasn't contingent on the finished product. It was built into the making itself.
You don't have to be whole before He holds you. You are already known by the hands that formed you. That is the last word on this.
A prayer for today
Thank You that wholeness isn't a destination. Thank You that I don't have to assemble myself into something acceptable before I come to You. The story is already written: You knit me together. I am, by Your design, a finished work. So I bring You the feeling of being unfinished—the rough edges, the loose threads I keep trying to tie. You are holding the complete picture. I am held, exactly as I am. The love that formed me is the love that keeps me. No more striving to become a better version for You. Tonight, I rest in the version You made. That is more than enough. Amen.
