Psalm 16:11

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

The clock ticks past the hour you promised yourself you'd be asleep. The blue light of your screen is the only thing illuminating the room, and the question is back. It’s the same one that visits in the quiet: How long? How long until this season shifts, until the weight lifts, until you feel like you’ve finally arrived?

That question has a weight of its own. It makes the present moment feel like a waiting room—a temporary, insufficient space you’re just passing through. You’re allowed to be tired of asking it. You’re allowed to feel the ache of the 'not yet.'

'You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.' That’s not a suggestion—it’s an invitation with your name on it. The promise isn’t for a distant future when everything is finally fixed. The filling happens *in your presence*. Right here. In this room. With this tired heart. The path of life isn’t a map to a better destination; it’s the reality of being walked with, right now. The joy and the pleasure are found in the settled fact of being with Him, not in the changing of your circumstances. The frantic energy of 'how long?' begins to dissipate when you realize the answer has already been given: He is here. For as long as it takes. Forever. That is what remains when the anxious question runs out of steam—a presence that is not visiting, but dwelling. It is complete. It lacks nothing. It is enough for this night, for this uncertainty, for you.

So let the question fade into the background noise. It doesn’t hold the power you thought it did. What remains is solid. What remains is a settled presence, wrapping around you in the glow of the screen, in the tick of the clock. You are not in a waiting room. You are home. And that is everything.

A prayer for today

To You, I bring the 'how long?' I bring the tired question that circles my mind like a tired bird. I’m laying it down at Your feet. Thank You that Your answer is not a date on a calendar, but a person. You are here. Your presence is the settled fact my soul has been searching for. I am held in this completeness that doesn’t depend on my circumstances changing. The joy You promise is already filling the spaces my worry tried to claim. Tonight, I am not waiting for You. I am resting in You. That is enough. Amen.

Facing the 'How Long?' · You're tired of asking 'how long' this hard season will last. A steady hope meets you right here, not with an answer, but with a presence in the middle of the waiting.
