Psalm 36:9

“For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.”

You're scrolling again. Or maybe you're just lying there, staring at the dark ceiling, trying to figure out how you'll muster the energy for tomorrow. The well feels dry. You've been dipping your bucket into your own reserves for so long, wondering why it keeps coming up empty. The effort to be the source—of your own strength, your own purpose, your own light—is exhausting.

The weight of that makes sense. Believing that everything must come from you is a heavy way to live. It's understandable that you'd feel drained, running on fumes, when you've been trying to draw from a shallow, personal cistern. The ache for something deeper, something that doesn't depend on your mood or your capacity, is real.

But what if you weren't the source? What if the very thing you're searching for isn't something you need to generate? 'For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.' That's not a metaphor about trying harder. It's a declaration about location. The fountain isn't you. It's *with* Him. The light isn't your own spark you have to fan into flame. It's *in His light* that you finally see clearly. This changes everything. You're not a reservoir you have to keep filling. You're a stream connected to a deeper, endless well. The life, the meaning, the clarity you're thirsty for—it's already flowing. It has a source, and it's not you. Your job isn't to manufacture it. Your invitation is to notice it, to turn your face toward it, to let it wash over the parched places. This fountain doesn't wait for you to be worthy. It doesn't require you to dig the channel. It simply is. And it is for you.

So right now, in this quiet, you can stop trying to be the spring. You can let the effort of self-sourcing fall away. Something abundant is already here, seeking you. Breathe in. You're connected to the fountain. Breathe out. You're seen in the light.

A prayer for today

Thank You that I am not the source. What a relief. What a gift. I'm so tired of trying to draw from my own shallow reserves, of pretending I have a bottomless well inside me. I don't. You already know that. And You are not disappointed. You are the fountain. The life is with You. The light comes from You. I am not generating it; I am receiving it. Right now, in my weariness, Your life is flowing toward me. Your light is reaching for me. I don't have to dig or strain. I am simply here, and You are simply giving. That is enough. I am held in this endless flow. Thank You. Amen.

A Life That Overflows Naturally · You see giving as another item on your endless list. But when your heart is full, generosity stops being effort—it simply overflows, natural and joyful, like breathing.
